Dr. Saad Saad is a pediatric surgeon who has invented to very useful pieces of medical equipment that he has patents for. The first of these is related to medical catheters, which are tubes that, generally, are placed into the body to help treat patients who suffer from a range of medical conditions. They also help out with surgical procedures by draining fluids or gases or giving surgeons a helping hand. Catheters are placed in the right spot in the body because they are aided by X-ray machines or MRI machines. The problem with X-rays are that they can damage a patient if they have to be bombarded by them multiple times. The problem with MRI machines are that they are bulky and, generally, are not a viable option for this purpose.
To help surgeons out, Dr. Saad Saad invented a catheter that has material in its tip that can be detected through an electromagnetic location identification device. The permeable material is placed inside of the coil on the tip of the catheter and allows doctors to locate it by scanning the patients body until the signal is found. It works sort of like a metal detector and now will keep patients away from X-rays and MRI scans. The device is also very small, which means it can be used in all sorts of cases and conditions.
Dr. Saad Saad also invented something that will make using an endoscope much easier for surgeons. His invention allows the endoscope to suck up liquids that fog up or get in the way of the view of surgeons while looking in a person’s body using an endoscope. This means that surgeons will not have to insert an endoscope only to have to remove it moments later to suction all of the liquid out of their way. This not only saves a lot of time but also a lot of complications as it can be hard to figure out exactly where the endoscope was before it was removed.
